WOTsing
The idea for a choir grew out of the carol singing in the Ferryboat car park
at Christmas. Everyone enjoys standing in the snow (hopefully) with a glass of
mulled wine and belting out the well known songs. So we thought, why does it
only have to be once a year? Singing used to be something everyone joined in
with, with hymns in church and songs around the piano. But in our modern and
busy life singing is not the activity of all but of a few highly trained, or
very self confident professionals. But singing is something we can all do, and
it is a good way of improving breathing and lightening the mood.
And that’s
how WOTsing began. Everyone is invited – you don’t need to read music, take an
audition, even keep a tune! Everyone has a voice and voices are meant to sing.
We intend to enjoy singing for its own sake without worrying about being perfect
or performing. WOTsing has a feel good factor!
We meet on the first
Thursday of each month from 7.30 -9 pm at St John’s church, Whitchurch Hill but
we are NOT a church choir. Though the church acoustics make us sound as if we
could be! We sing for a while, break for coffee and chat and then sing some
more. We sing the songs everyone knows – songs from shows, pop songs, songs from
school days, folk songs and anything else someone suggests.
Here
is our song list!
